Novel CO Tolerant Anode Catalysts for PEFC Based on Platinum and Organic Metal Complexes

چکیده
A series of new CO tolerant anode catalysts for reformate type polymer electrolyte fuel cells are proposed that are superior to state-of-the-art Pt-Ru metal alloy catalysts. Composite catalysts based on platinum and metal complex were fabricated by a new procedure where carbon supported platinum precursor and nitrogen containing organic metal complex were heat-treated in Ar atmosphere at temperatures from 300 to 600°C (abbreviated as Pt-M(complex)/C). Catalysts were loaded on a carbon paper and hot pressed on one side of Nafion 115 membrane (half-MEA), and CO tolerance tests were conducted in the anode half-cell at 70oC with H2 containing various levels of CO. Also single fuel cell performance was measured with full MEA in H2(CO) and Air gas flowing at the anode and cathode chambers. Compared with commercial Pt-Ru/C catalysts, new class of anode catalysts Pt-M(complex)/C proved to be very promising both in initial and long term performances, also in view of a wide variety of molecular designing and the low cost of the organic complexes synthesized.

Polymer electrolyte based fuel cells (PEFCs) are always in the forefront of fuel cell revolution. Recently a wide variety of application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in PEFC components has been exploited. The impetus is to improve the PEFC performance by taking advantages of CNTs’ extraordinary physical, chemical and electronic properties. Herein, we briefly review these efforts with an attempt t...
متن کاملA Review on Preferential Oxidation of Carbon Monoxide in Hydrogen Rich Gases
In this review, recent works on the preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen rich gases for fuel cell applications are summarized. H2 is used as a fuel for polymer-electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). It is produced by reforming of natural gas or liquid fuels followed by water gas shift reaction. The produced gas consists of H2, CO, and CO2. In which CO content is around 1%, whi...
متن کاملPhosphate-Tolerant Oxygen Reduction Catalysts
Increased oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics, improved CO tolerance, and more efficient water and heat management represent significant advantages that high-temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cells (HT-PEFCs) operating with a phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) membrane offer over traditional Nafion-based, low-temperature PEFCs. However, before such HT-PEFCs become viable, the...

A series of dissymmetric dinuclear complexes were synthesized, as dual site catalysts in ethylene polymerization, by coupling the allylated a-diimine complexes of the metals Ti, Zr, V, Ni and Pd with the ansa-zirconocene complex [C5H4-SiH(Me)-C5H4]ZrCl2 possessing a hydride silane moiety. The different stages of syntheses included the formation of bis(cyclopentadienide)methyl silane which was u...
